MY FATHER NOT A GRAPHICS DESIGNER BUT MY MAP TO BECOMING A GRAPHICS DESIGN EXPERT
Hi,
My name is Egbetola Sunkanmi, a Lead Graphic designer at D-Graphics Xpert, a subsidiary of Damsun Enterprises. Let me share my story with you about how I got involved in designs before badging my first degree.
I first became aware of Graphics Design during my undergraduate days in 2017. My school had been built in the 50s and the library was literally frozen in time. I would search through the art books and online graphics repositories, only to realize that there wasn’t anything current- everything appeared to be 25+ years old or maybe obsolete.
In 1993, my biological father brought an electronic magazine when he was coming from his office. Everything was so creative and satirical that I forgot I was even looking at a publication! I later went to him in his room and asked him questions on the creativity and pictures in the magazine. He took his time to explain to me that some graphic professionals put the pictures and well arranged texts together to make that beautiful look. It was then that I understand that Graphics Design is the art of combining texts and pictures to give a meaningful interpretation. I was also interested in taking it up as a profession.
After graduating from the university in 2002, I didn’t know that Graphics Design was a viable career option! I toured the city of Lagos seeking internship while contemplating a second degree in business, I signed up for a month elementary graphics design training with Babatunde Julius, (An Online Graphics Design Expert), where I began as an elementary Graphics Designer. It was such an interesting class.
Few month later, I re-enrolled for a Professional Course on a Graphics Design and my experience as a graphics designer earned me high paid six digits income job in a wonderful company where I have been able to put all what I have learnt from an Online Graphics Design Expert into practice and I have been promoted into a Managerial Position.
